[i'll come find you, she had promised, and so when people start returning, that's exactly what sophie does. not straight away--there are more important people he likely needs to see--but soon enough. she ignores his shared apartment entirely and gives only a cursory glance into the window of the pet store just in case she's guessed wrong.
she hasn't guessed wrong. isaac is in the park, in the shade of a familiar tree. his back is to her, and so she sends a little shadow pup ambling ahead of her. this can't be a good time for him to be sneaked up on. it crawls into his lap to assault him with mercifully dry puppy kisses as she crosses the expanse of somehow still manicured lawn to sit down beside him.]
[Isaac is surprised to see the puppy, and he has to do a quick doubletake to ensure that it's a shadow, to ensure that it's not one of his. There's a tenuous flutter of control there as he reaches for it with his own power, before recognizing Sophie's hand in it with a little smile.
He moves to pick the puppy up then, tucking it close to his chest as he turns to look for her, wherever she is.]
[she doesn't struggle to hold the puppy when he attempts to control it, but it redoubles its efforts to thoroughly bathe his chin once he realizes whose shadow it is and picks it up. sophie isn't that far behind the puppy, and she smiles when he turns toward her. it only takes a moment for her to reach him and sit down on the grass, close but not quite touching him. sophie looks as exhausted and stretched-thin as anyone, but her smile is soft and fond, warming the sharpness of her features.]
[Isaac finds her as she moves closer, grinning at the sight of her. All he really remembers from his time as a ghost was flashes, momentary glimpses of something that might be a cohesive whole, never the full picture.
He pets the puppy a little more, moving to sit more comfortably next to her.]
You and me both. It's been a crazy couple of weeks.
[the tiny dark scabs are still there on her forearm and the back of her hand from where the slivers of broken lamp had cut, but sophie isn't going to bring it up. better that he doesn't recall their encounter and the accompanying anger and fear. if anything, she looks just a little relieved that he seems in good spirits.]
That it has. We've been granted another respite, it seems.

[He doesn't look too close for the time being, but that probably won't last long.]
You okay?
