[ For the first time since she woke up with memories of home, Allison actually finds herself smiling in a completely, 100%, absolutely true way. And it's not a small one, like she's smiled before, but it's actually fairly wide. She had laughed a little with Scott at the Christmas party and she'd been able to lighten up some with Lydia, but... This feels like a huge step. And there's a twisting in her stomach that reminds her not only of how she's felt numerous times around Scott, but also how she felt when Isaac and her were talking on Christmas. At least when he was complimenting her and embarrassing her.
Thankfully, though, he can't see it because Allison doesn't really want to acknowledge what it means. She just wants to believe that she's thankful they're still friends, that they've come to this point, that they care about each other despite the complications in their lives. That's all she can handle right now. ]
I'll try.
[ Because if there's one thing Allison can't promise, it's that she won't feel bad about something or be too hard on herself. ]
I just wanted to make sure you knew because, like you said, I do care about you. You're my friend and I want you to be happy.
[ And she feels guilty that she's standing in the way, but she's going to try to focus on Isaac saying that it was his choice and he was doing it out of respect for her. ]
But I'll make you a deal; I'll never bring it up again if you buy me lunch to go with that coffee when you get back.
[He can understand what she's saying, even if he doesn't particularly like the fact that his backing down made her feel guilty. Ultimately though, Isaac can't control how Allison feels, even if he wants her to feel better, so he lets it go, grinning when he reads over her deal.]
you drive a hard bargain, argent.
[But not an unreasonable one. Isaac is hardly as broke as he used to be- and even if he was, he'd be able to afford a meal or two. Allison is worth it, anyway.]
[ She types it out and sends it before realizing it sounds a little... Something. More than friendly somehow, though she's probably just over-thinking it. Even though she's trying as hard as she can, she can't shake off what Stiles said. Why did it burrow so deep? Why can't she just forget it?
Despite that, though, Allison doesn't necessarily regret sending it because it's the truth. She is looking forward to lunch with Isaac, and not just because she'll be able to know he made it back safely. ]
[He doesn't know how to take that. Excited for them to have lunch? Definitely just being friendly. Not like she's- she doesn't have time for relationships and frankly, trying to misread all of her texts as flirting is probably a dick move.
So Isaac takes a deep breath and tries to forget about it.]
[ Allison isn't even sure how she means it, so she wouldn't blame Isaac for not knowing how to take it if she knew. But she just shoves it aside and tries to focus on the words rather than any hidden meaning behind them - hers or Isaac's - because that never, ever ends well. ]
Yeah.
[ It's a seriously lame ending to their conversation, but she's not really sure what else to say. ]
